What are foot orthoses?

Foot orthoses are shoe inserts to help support the feet that fit inside shoes. They are designed to help support, align and improve overall foot function. There are many different kinds of orthoses including prefabricated (off the shelf), semi-custom and custom made foot orthotics. Your Podiatrist may prescribe the appropriate orthoses to suit your individual needs and biomechanics following thorough testing and assessments.

Orthoses can be made of a variety of materials from soft density foams to hard thermo-plastics and carbon fibre. They can vary in length and can also be designed to differ in thickness and flexibility depending on your individual needs. Top covers are placed over the orthoses for a soft and comfortable surface that provides cushioning and shock absorption for your feet when required.
